This kitchen is in the house I am buying. The house was built in 1962 and I don't think it has been updated since. I love the layout of the kitchen, the height of the counters, the height and storage space of the cabinets, the corner sink and the counter space. I am planning on painting the cabinets white and replacing the counter tops, but I need some ideas for the backsplash and area above the cabinets. My style is a little on the country, rustic side, so any ideas that are simple and cheap would be great. I do love red. Thanks for any input.

This is our new AUTHENTIC Tuscan Farm house we just built. We were the GC of the project and brought to the project years of research and even experience living in Italy to make a truly authentic livable space outside of Austin TX in the Hill Country. The Austin Business Journal just did an story on us: Read all about it at: http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/stories/2008/03/17/story14.html?b=1205726400^1604750
We love the contrasting cabinet colors. The sinks faucet pendant lights and backsplash accent the stainless steel appliances beautifully. I couldn't change the footprint of the kitchen or the height of the ceiling but I made the most of what I had to work with. I now have a pantry glass doors an appliance garage granite counters and professional appliances including my two drawer Fisher Paykel dishwasher in the island.

My husband and I tore out everything in this dirty, dated, dilapidated kitchen. We ripped up the floor, knocked down a wall and exposed brick in order to bring this place back to life.
I designed the new space with an island jam packed with function and storage and areas dedicated to cooking, clean up and cocktails.
We love to entertain and this kitchen is a fun place to do it!
Budget friendly kitchen makeover. A lot of imagination combined with a little ingenuity turned this space into a one of a kind family friendly gathering place with personality to spare.
Here are some key features that may make my new kitchen a 5 Star. The cabinets are custom made of Maple, painted in Restoration Hardware white. The inset Shaker style door fronts are patterned after the original build-in's from the hallway. All the Kitchen walls are covered from floor to ceiling in subway tiles to create that professional feel. Making it modern and contemporary are Refrigeration and Double Drawer dishwasher with flat fronts from Fisher & Paykel. The food is cook with this “Built like a tank” 36” wide commercial grade Jade Range with a center griddle and 21" backsplash with shelf. Alleviating the heat generated by the handsome stove is a KitchenAid Architecture Series hood capable of completely renewing the air in the kitchen in 2 minutes! Water usage is control by a chrome Fairfax series Kohler faucet. Capping out the countertops is Square-Edged Black Galaxy Granite from Brazil.
