Our main-level powder room is just off the great room. I wanted a dramatic effect, so with the teeny space, I painted the walls a deep blue-gray. I was getting super-bored with the decor in the room however, and the vanity was
U-G-L-Y! (builder-grade yellow/orange oak, with blue laminate counters. So, I decided to paint the countertops. They were hideous, how could they look any worse, I thought? So, this was the pilot for what has now become 6 painted laminate countertops. (I have done all 3 of my bathrooms, the kitchen, the island, and my mom's house. Once the countertops were painted/poly'd, I painted the cabinet a crisp white. Then, added pulls from IKEA. Spray painted the mirror, and all of the existing frames in silver, white & shiny, bright red. All of the art work are black and white vintage New York photos from a CALENDAR I bought. I wanted art work, but needed it CHEAP. I had a ton of mismatched frames lying around, so I I painted them all out to coordinate, and ripped-out calendar pages & cut them to fit in the frames. My husband and I love vintage, and collect antique cameras, so we figured we would display some of them in the powder room on these crisp white IKEA shelves. We also collect old apothecary bottles, as you see in the photos. I wanted an "Americana" feel WITHOUT being like "HEY! I'm red, white and blue, get it??? - themey-type room".
