When we bought our split-level home, the lower level had a bathroom roughed in; but it was only a cement floor and studs. We built this bathroom from the ground up. For some aspects, such as drywall, tiling, etc., we had to use professionals as we were unqualified; but whatever we could do ourselves, we did, in order to keep costs down as much as possible; we painted, installed the cabinets, etc. The whole project ended up costing around $4,000. As with the rest of my home, I decorated the bathroom with accent pieces from world travels; serene Buddha from Japan, carved wooden animals from Sri Lanka, decorative tiles from Turkey, tall floor vase from Spain.
