I actually hadn't noticed that it wasn't centered! But yes, that is exactly what you need to do. Be sure to buy extension rods and mount the rod on the left window so it extends further towards the bed on that side so the drape will lay the same as the one on the right window. Be sure to extend the rods a bit beyond the outer window edges to visually widen them so they don't appear too narrow. Some of the fabric will on the drywall so when you want light/view, it won't be obstructed too much to the drapery panels. It will definitely work to fool the eye into thinking the bed is centered. Be sure to go to the ceiling with the drapes - very important with your poster bed. Personally, I would go with lined drapery panels layered over natural shades rather than layering sheers underneath. It's just a more updated look, but you may want the more wispy romantic look of sheers underneath. I would plan to just leave the panels open with the shades or sheers adjusted for light and privacy.

Nice room but you need drapes and maybe layer the bedding with a blanket or throw. Also add throw pillows.

Blondepegasus - I love that idea. I was thinking also, you see how the bed is not centered on the wall between the windows? It is centered in the room. But perhaps I could make it look centered by hanging the window dressings a little different? Then I could put an art piece between the posts? I haven't put anything there because I thought it would make it look even more off. Let me know your thoughts.

I love the yellow paint and the furniture is absolutely gorgeous! Ceiling to floor length drapery panels and a little art and this room will be so warm and comfy.

The transformation is amazing! I love the after. The furniture is amazing and I like the simplicity of the quilt. I agree with potchie's comments. The bed could use a bit more oomph whether thats a duvet on the end of the bed or even just a couple of throw pillows and a throw blanket. Personally, for window treatments, I think I'd do roman shades which are lovely and simple. You can always add blinds underneath the roman shades for additional filtering of light, and of course panels layered on top of the roman shades to create interest.

Those are great ideas. I wish there was some way - if someone had a picture of something to show someone asking that they could somehow put it up here. I would really like to see pictures of bedding ideas too. I've always been a pillow person (lots of them, and layers on the bed, but I am almost lost here. I am so glad for the input.

your furniture is beautiful! already this is an improvement! i'd LOVE to see you paint the doors white to match the trim, which will make the space seem larger and brighter and will neutralize the old looking wood. i think the quilt is nice but remember, the bed should be the BEST part of the room! think 5* hotel! look to add a fluffy duvet to at least the foot of the bed and matching shams to the pillows and check ebay...sometimes good deals on name brand bedding can be found there! since the posts of the bed are taller than the windows, mount the decorative curtain rods at almost ceiling height [will make ceilings seem taller, hence room larger!] and slightly wider than the windows and hang a pair of straight, non-sheer curtain panels that coordinate with the bedding. you could them layer sheers or fabric roman shades beneath the panels. also look for bedside lamps [homegoods!] and keep us psoted! :]
