Our master bedroom is fairly large and was painted the same beige that the builder painted the whole house, until I recently repainted it a crisp pale blue with a chocolate brown accent wall. Textiles and accessories feature brown and red pretty prominently. Furniture consists of pieces acquired over the years based on how much we liked them, not out of a desire to have everything "matchy-matchy". Though the furniture represents some different colors and styles, I've tried to gain cohesion through the red and brown accessories and textiles. Tips for further cohesion in the room would be welcome. Overall we're quite happy with how it's shaping up (:

The Patently Pink Poultry Palace, So I love the color pink and I love chickens. But with no daughters to justify painting a room pink, and living in the 'burbs rather than farm country, what was I to do about either? My passion for poultry and pink seemed doomed... but then my city ok'd the keeping of backyard chickens, as long as it was fewer than 25 hens, and no roosters. Hooray! Small Dining Area, We have a pretty small dining area, right off our kitchen. I wish it could accommodate a buffet or hutch, but there's no room. We added what character we could with a dark red accent wall, and our beloved rustic pine dining set from Mexico, which we purchased as newlyweds. It was one of our first "domestic purchases". It seats 6 people comfortably but can accommodate eight - there are two more matching dining chairs that we pull out when necessary. I suppose we could free up room for a side piece if we were to downsize to a smaller dining set, especially since we rarely entertain eight people... but that's a sacrifice we're unwilling to make. We've been thinking about adding a white chair rail along the red wall... what do you guys think?, Dining Rooms Design

Casual funky eclectic family room, I was going for a loosely Moroccan-inspired, funky, casual and fun, global-eclectic family room. This space is on the lower level of our split-entry home, in a daylight/walkout basement area. I know the TV is a real old clunky eyesore and the space would look so much better with a sleek new flatscreen. True Blue Bathroom, When we bought our split-level home, the lower level had a bathroom roughed in; but it was only a cement floor and studs. We built this bathroom from the ground up. For some aspects, such as drywall, tiling, etc., we had to use professionals as we were unqualified; but whatever we could do ourselves, we did, in order to keep costs down as much as possible; we painted, installed the cabinets, etc. The whole project ended up costing around $4,000. As with the rest of my home, I decorated the bathroom with accent pieces from world travels; serene Buddha from Japan, carved wooden animals from Sri Lanka, decorative tiles from Turkey, tall floor vase from Spain. , Bathrooms Design
