I did not like the way the dining room was. It had the stairs going down to the basement right in the middle between the dining room and kitchen. After opening up the walls around the stairs. I talked to a contractor friend about moving the stairs over to the side of the room so that I could leave it open from the kitchen through to the dining room. Since this was a structural move I had to get help. If you dont know how to or feel that it may be a little beyond your knowledge/skills get help! It will be money well spent.
