It doesn't take a lot of $ - watch for sales or check out the return section at Home Depot or Lowes paint dept. They actually let folks return paint cans they have already opened and they mark them down considerably. You'll want latex paint for the kitchen so you can clean it easily. Believe me, I know from experience. I'm not rich either, in fact, I rent my home. But, we got permission from out landlord to repaint our cabinets white and found returned paint at $5 a gallon a few yrs ago. I even had enough left to paint the inside of the pantry and it had NEVER been painted since the house had been built. Just lightly sand the cabinets, wipe them down with any wipes (like the Clorox kind, then paint. It's easy!

Is that a built-in buffet on the right side there? If I were you, I'd paint that white just like the trim around the windows. It would make the space seem larger and brighter. Also, I absolutely love that dining table and chairs!
