The room is very colonial to me. I think the short curtains look fine for the period of the house. I do like Melrose's suggestion of a red and white toile.

Some possibilities include: a red and white French toile; stripes in red, yellow and green; or a plaid in the same colors. Good luck and repost when you're ready.

I am going to take Melrose80's advice and replace the curtains with floor length. I am open for ideas of a good color to brighten up the deep red. In person it does not appear as dark as the pictures show. The doors when closed are the same white as the trim.

Nice job on the crown moulding. I'm not convinced that the short, beige curtains are doing justice to your hard work or this space. Perhaps some floor length drapes with multi colors in a traditional pattern, would be worth considering.
