The screen has matchbook covers on it. I have an emotional attachment to it as my grandmother whom I was very close to made it of her travels.

Interesting idea with the pvc pipe. I would have never thought or found that but it's really neat.

Agreed that I need color. My favorite color is blue and with time I'll get into painting.

Paint the walls a blue grey and paint the ladder black. the duncan Phfye table is great, miss mine. Recover seats, just four screws, some staples and 2 yards of upholstery fabric. you could change light fixture but use a bit on modern style, not to old or traditional or just lower the one you have.. table needs a modern rug under it to help tie together with rest of room. You can mix antique and modern industrial, just tie together with other elements. Would love to have your place!

Congrats on such a great space. I think you need some clean contrast to show off the antiquity and modernity of it. What's your favorite color? Paint it to the ceiling of the kitchen wall opposite the windows. Also paint that color on the fireplace wall, up to the ceiling. Paint everything else a bright white. Get an inexpensive flokati-ish rug in the same or coordinating color to group your living room furniture around. Get some inexpensive Tord Boontje paper chandeliers to hang 3/4 to 1/2 down to draw eyes up and create interest. Perhaps even get inexpensive chine paper balloons to stack up to create floor chandeliers.
