A French style can include the Riviera, and you do have Mediterranean and French colors in the painting. So, I would suggest using colors in the painting for inspiration. I would recommend one of the coral shades on the walls and a sky blue shade on the ceiling. If you go with the coral walls, you may want white or ivory curtains. If you want to keep the light blue curtains, then you may want white, ivory, or a very light coral on the walls.

Also, 2 crome or brushed nickle sconces on either side of the artwork may look nice too...either candle-lit or electrical (if you have the flush mount light fixture too.

Art is very personal and needs to appeal to you, but try to keep what it portrays and the feeling it gives to the mood you want to create in the room. Also, your rug underneath the table suggests a more informal feel, so you can get away with a more playful painting or picture.

If you are able to or have thought of changing out your light fixture, it does hang a bit low and may take away from seeing whatever painting/picture you put up. Finding a flush-mount/semi-flush mount light fixture would open up the area some more.

I can totally see where you are going based on photos of your other rooms. It looks "Frenchy" with a contemporary feel. French is romantic. I can't make the art, but it looks mediterranean to me. I would consider replacing it with something more romantic/contemporary. Maybe on white canvas to bring in some light. A linen or burlap runner the length of the table against the dark wood would pop and tie into chair fabric. I would definitely add pattern and color to the curtain panels to warm up the room. My sister encountered same issues in her D/R. I found a barkcloth fabric (looks like linen with a retro paisley print in blue, cream and brown. I made simple panels and that did the trick! We made an arrangement of hydrangeas in an oversized basket for the table. It added a suttle romantic touch to the room. That would also tie into the Pottery Barn look such as in you chandelier.
