Your decorating has lots of character and looks comfortable and cozy. I think using Grandma's sewing machine as a buffet is clever. As a style, your house has many Arts and Crafts features - the square windows, wood plank floors, beautiful oak trim stained dark, and arched doorways. I know you love your green color, but it probably is too dark for the woodwork and furniture. Paint it with a shade darker than the upper walls. To bring some color into the room, slipcovers for the Parson's chairs are easy to find or make. You could cut out the white part of the china cabinet doors and do a matching fabric gathered in the openings [attach a tiny rod on the inside top and bottom of the door and sew "curtains" with rod pockets on the top and bottom.] Then those doors could be left open to display vintage tableclothes, dishes, etc. Have fun! Good start! P.S. Does your grandma's sewing cabinet have one drawer full of buttons like my grandma's did? Smiles.

Also... you're off base on the doors. The house was built in 1930.

Will Nero, thank you for your [albeit extremely negative] assessment. I have definitely had to work within time, money and sentimental constraints of this room [for example, the sewing machine stays because my great grandma used to make baby dresses for my cousins and I on it!] :] Maybe that's where the transitional/eclectic part comes in? Like I said I'm not really sure what my style is, just working with what I have. I know the chairs aren't a perfect match but they were a steal and they do for now. As far as the "chair rail" - it's not a chair rail; I don't have any chairs that high! ;] I wanted a green dining room but when I painted the whole thing green it was waaay too dark, so the tan on top was to lighten it and the less than beefy [because beefy costs more!!] strip of wood was a better solution than a wallpaper border. :] The rug is not ideal either and as soon as my 5 and 6 year olds can get through a stinkin' meal without spilling something, I plan on replacing it! lol

Not that I am an expert in any way but the chairs do not really go well with the table both in style and in color the green rug on the brown floor brings the eye down with the green walls being of the same shade causing the room to be very bottom heavy, so much so that the yellow tan color above seems almost an afterthought. doors evoking
a turn of the century feeling with a few farm house items and the chair rail is way too high and to thin beef it up look at the casing around the windows and the black fire place that’s more keeping of something seen in industry space, not a home the lighting is also from era to era as you have craftsmen and forged iron mixed with the thin candle stick lamp. the sewing machine is great but sewing machines do not belong in a formal or even informal dining room, it became all the rage in the mid 80's as a resurgent of surplus family keepsakes became available after the war I the late 60s and people wanted all new and fashionable was the new rag
