The new header on the front of the carport between the two evenly spaced front center posts will need to support the weight of the front of the header that runs from front to back of carport. Now see why it's a little tricky to make all this work, since it was built at two different time frames and tied together. But where there is a will there is a way. Just at what cost, that is the question ?

But if I do get to span the whole 30 feet opening I was thinking of using a metal I-Beam to span the whole distance......now don't ask me how I'm going to get that I-Beam lifted into position......any helpers out there ? But yes I will probably have to go with the three bay carport with two center post evenly spaced. It doesn't help that this carport was built as two single carports. I'll explain: The side closest to the house was built as a single carport....15 feet wide. Then years later the left side of the carport was added with another 15 feet. So running down the center of this 30 wide carport from front to back of the carport is a center header that right now is supported by a post at the rear of the carport and a post in the front of the carport. Yeah I know had to understand with out seeing it. Having said all that.....if I do a three bay carport with two evenly space front post, I still have to add a support header.

The only way not to have ANY posts in your opening is to have a large arched opening that would support your roof. The right side would have to be connected to your home and the left side would have to be substantially beefed up to support the weight of the roof. The more economical solution would be to replace the single center post with two evenly spaced posts to create three openings.
