Creeping Wooly Thyme will make it in zone 4 no problem. But it has to be in the rock garden environment. Has to have excellent drainage and lot's of sun. Where mine creeps under day lilies it gets thin and scraggly in the shadow. Mine has a sprinkler system hitting it, but again it drains well here. There's nothing but hard clay and limestone under the stepping stones. A few clumps spread in about 3 seasons.

Great picture. Looks so beautiful. I love thyme to and planted it everywhere I have stepping stone paths. Wonder if it will grow in a shady area? Love the Idea of it looking like water. Thanks for sharing.
