Thank you for your encouragement. I find it so helpful to exchange with other gardeners. If you haven't read it yet, the best book I ever read on perennial care is by Tracy DeiSabato-Aust, called "The Well Tended Perennial Garden." For instance, I learned when your day-lilies are done blooming to cut the foliage all the way to the ground. A few weeks later you get a whole new flush of fresh foliage that looks great until fall. No more ratty brown tips. Best of luck coastalgardener.
