Funny you should ask about the edging because it's a huge job and I really think it's important. In the spring I edge every bed with a straight edged spade. I usually cut about 3 inches of the grass back and then on hands and knees pull every blade that has crept in. Then every other week I pay the guy who mows my lawn to edge with a real edger. Not a weed whacker. That helps keep it back. But I constantly, (weekly, until fall go around and dig the edges with a weeder blade to find those creepy grass blades that tried to burrow deeper. I think a sharp edge gives the best impression of a well tended garden.

Built-ins add storage and architectural interest, This is a second home in Florida that lacked storage and interest. So I designed the built in storage unit and a valance over the patio doors to add a little more interest and storage. The TV unit makes the entertainment a little more refined. It was built in paint grade plywood veneers. I did the painting. The screen on the cabinet that holds the sound system and other electronics is rug hooking fabric painted the same color as the cabinets. It's inexpensive and the controls shoot through it perfectly. A Neglected 1940's Garden Restored and Now Vibrant and Alive!, Once a beautiful bird sanctuary, my garden was a tremendous challenge to bring it back to life and not only make it a joyous place to be and walk through, but also a quiet serene place as a part of our home. Late Spring early Summer, what a wonderful time of year this is. There's the freshness and exuberance of spring yet fullness of summer. It seems as if the garden has been preparing all year for this very moment. You really cant believe how the garden has changed at this time of year, a change that really has an impact. Growth is at its optimum until the summer heat kicks in. The fresh green growth really brings out the colours of the flowers I think.
