I am with paulacooper on this one- just do the best you can to trim the bushes and neaten them up (cut down the scragley ones that you can, and then do some potted flowers on your porch to frame your door. If it is a rental, don't spend money re-landscaping for your landlord- you'll never get that money back!

Thanks for more pictures. Still confused which bushes have to go. 3 in the middle and one under window the same bushes? Again whack the ones that have to stay and narrow the one to the left of door if it has to stay. Smaller medium size bushes in front of window, layer another row in front of those with flowers or monkey grass. Large planters on front porch with flowers and maybe tall plant, get rid of all the current stuff on porch, the table and 2 chair good idea, maybe something unique hanging on the wall to right of door. If you don't cut back the ones you have to keep it will be hard to create the balance of different sizes. If you cut back now, the Spring will get them back to where you want them, don't be afraid to cut to far. Hopefully the bushes under the window are going if not again whack and wider at the bottom to narrower on top to avoid how they look now. Good luck

Since it is a rental, I would trim all the bushes and lay mulch. I would invest my time and money into the front porch area. Two new outdoor chairs with a table between them would look nice. A few potted flowering plants would add some color.

Really need a better picture, can't see the front door. Trim bushes to appropriate size like a xmas shade to avoid empty branches on bottom. Don't let the bushes hide windows!
