Modern Visual Update, Out in the countryside of Boise lays an up beat family neighborhood where the homes and people are nice and polite, its one of those old fashioned neighborhoods where you see people walking there dogs waving at each other and stopping to talk about the days ups and downs. The pace of life is a bit slower, but the aesthetic is becoming dated and so typical. One homeowner wanted to change their way of living and their surroundings to something more urban and modern but wanted to keep the lifestyle and pace that is present in the neighborhood. We came up with unique ideas that completely sets this home apart from the neighborhood but gives a sense of richness and a breath of fresh air as you drive through.

Materials were carefully chosen to incorporate the softness of nature and the hard modern lines of the city and âmodernâ design. Cedar that was taken through a long three part process of staining, drying, wiping went up as the main focal point, we wanted to begin accentuating the horizontal lines of this tall home to bring the scale back to a more personal level. Cedar, by itself, would look to bland, even though the stain is beautiful it needed a pop and a bit of contrast. Anodized aluminum reveals were added to continue the horizontal theme and make the cedar pop even more against the new dark paint colors on the home. This reveal begins to highlight more custom work as the powder coated sunshades cantilever off of the homes front providing that last needed detail to bring the whole project together. They not only provide visual interest, but are a functional piece of artwork as well. All of these elements welcome you into the front porch where you stand, gazing at a glowing frosted glass door wanting to know what is inside., Home Exterior Design

Modern Mid-Century Kitchen, This project was designed to bring back subtle details from the 50s and 60s era of Âmid-century modernÂ but keeping it a completely modern update. With a simple yet complex palette that brings a great sense of drama into such a small space that was once very sad and dark.
The space was designed to allow the flow of people from one space to another without interfering with each another. It denotes unique features such as a floating island bar top that spans nearly eight feet unsupported as it dies into a wall of shiny glass tile. The design was set to involve multiple senses other than just seeing with your eyes, touch is a large part of this kitchen. It has large seamless granite slabs that are leather finished to give off a warm and very unique texture.

Very Small Powder Room, This space was extremely large and outdated and not at all functional. After giving some space from the bathroom to a closet and workspace area in the other part of the house I picked out a more minimal design scheme. I ran the glass tile vertically to create more space and to emphasize the floating airy nature of the vanity which is a masa board the clients found on a trip to Spain. With some clever ways to attach it to the wall we concealed all the supports., Bathrooms Design

Classic but Contemporary Kitchen, This kitchen was long awaiting an update. Although clean and still functional it was just maple, maple, maple (Floors, cabinets, and beige walls). Not wanting to spend a lot of money my client opted to keep the existing layout. I suggested we take the cabinets all the way to the ceiling and add a couple glass doors. The cabinets also got a nice fresh coat of paint and new hardware. Quartz countertops were installed with an under mount sink. The Ã¢ÂÂislandÃ¢ÂÂ area that sits almost outside of the kitchen area needed to be brought in to be a part of the space. I ran the glass tile backsplash up to the ceiling and hung pendant lights to complete the space. It looks like a completely new space!, Kitchens Design

dbh. Contemporary Kitchen #1, A leaky dishwasher is all it took to be the deciding factor of new versus update. This kitchen is tucked away in a period mid-80âs home, where oak was the wood of choice for everything. This living space was begging to be better utilized and brightened up, so thatâs what we did. I completely had the entire kitchen layout re-organized into a more functional and usable space, now the cook can cook and the spectators can, well eat.
The kitchen was once a âUâ shaped kitchen, basically where there is a singular entrance, we converted that into two entrances and an island and still maintained a bar area for the kids to do homework and eat their snacks. I also choose to extend the island at a more comfortable level, a built in table top that mimics the quartz countertops but in wood, a softer tone where the family can come home, sit and eat with each other.
Dark, walnut stained bamboo flooring went in to ground all the light colors in the room as well as a make a good contrasting statement. On top went the off white shaker style cabinet doors that are accented with stainless steel bar pulls and topped with a creamy quartz stone slab.
All this came from a dishwasher (which has since been replaced) and good thing, no more burnt pink countertops and ugly oak, just nice and bright!, Kitchens Design

transitional/Contemporary/minimalist kitchen makeover(before & after), cookie cutter track home got a major overhaul from floor to ceiling. Kitchen is on the small side and the short cabinets made the room feel even smaller. original yellow oak cabinets ,white tile countertops and recessed fluorescent lights from early 2000. Lacked personality and style and very ugly to say the least.
Did my research and laid out a budget before taking the plunge though in the end we nearly doubled the amount spent. project took two months from start(demo) to finish. , Kitchens Design

50's Cozy Cottage Kitchen, Our kitchen space is cute, but old. The cabinets have been repainted many times. The floor is uneven because of multiple layers of linoleum. The appliances need replacing. Something is leaking between the fridge and dishwasher and we don't know which so we keep a towel underneath the fridge to soak up the water coming from somewhere. The bar/pantry is so deep, things get lost and you never see them again. The bar really isn't a bar it's a "catch-all" and we need more space!! , Kitchens Design

Open concept, This is a 2 bedroom apartment above our garage that my husband and I have almost finished. He fought me on the white cabinets wanting a rustic feel and I wanted some contrast from the dark hardwood floors and pine ceiling. I'm so happy with the end result, and so is he. Total Transformation, The kitchen prior to renovations was a Galley kitchen with a pass through to the formal dining room on one side and then had a breakfast nook on the other side. There was a wall between the breakfast nook and an indoor patio.

I decided to knockdown the wall between the breakfast nook and the indoor patio and then close up the pass through to the formal dining room. I then transformed the formal living room into an office and placed my dining room furniture where the breakfast nook used to be. The kitchen has a huge bar that you can sit at so there is no need for a breakfast nook anymore.

This created a giant living/dining/kitchen area. , Kitchens Design

Tile backsplash #2, aaahhhh, I was SO SO happy with how this backsplash turned out! I really contemplated how to do it and had a hard time finding something I thought would look good. The granite is a little wild so I wanted something that would blend nicely. I used the same 2" tiles I used at my daughters house (see backsplash #1) but turned them on a diagonal. WOW what a difference! Plus this was very inexpensive tile. Only $2.97 for a 12x12 in sheet! Used the "Simple mat tile adhesive" again. Love this stuff., Kitchens Design
