This kitchen has most likely been the same from the time it was built in the 1960's. It has two different base cabinets and horrible countertops that are white with gold specs. Part of the side of the countertops is gone and all of the wall base is missing. The backsplach behind the stove is old metal. The pieces that separate the kitchen floor from the other rooms is an old cheap gold color metal piece.

I don't have the budget to do much of anything. It's the worse kitchen ever. So I thought about painting the cabinets or something. Anything anyone can suggest would be most appreciated! Thank you!

If you don't have the budget for new cabinets, here is an inexpensive idea that will cover up the grooves and create a shaker style door. Purchase bass or balsa wood in 1/8th' thick by 21/2 or 3" wide strips and apply to the perimeter with contact cement after cleaning with Fantastic and lightly sanding the door with a medium grit. Prime with kills2 and paint with a satin enamel. A fine sanding and a second coat will make them even more durable. I would be happy to post a before/after photos that are amazing, but I don't see an option to do so here.
