I would paint the cabinets and the pantry room door a color picked from the counter tops. Agreed, the backsplash can be painted. Do as the instructions say or it looks horrid. I speak from experience. Do away with the Christmas lights on top the cupboards and refresh the accessories. Faux plants in a kitchen collect the grease that floats in the air and all the dust and look horrid quickly. Also a health hazard. I'd move the chef off the top of the fridge and put him on that counter right next to him. Some colored accessories...mixer, coffe maker, centerpiece for table...the kitchen looks fine to me.

You have a very nice kitchen. To change it up a bit you could replace the items above the cabinets for copper items or decorative plates/platters/baskets (sitting on an angle. You can update your backsplash by painting all or some of the tiles with a specialty paint made for ceramic tile. You could also remove some of the tiles and replace them with tiles in another color or pattern. I like the mosaic candle on the table; however, it blends in too well with the table...you may consider changing with a colorful bowl that is either red, apple green, or orange.
