I've done a lot of diy work myself, like the tilework. Mostly because I couldn't afford better.
The cabinets were bought cheap (in 1992 from someone who was renovating their condo, and made to fit the space. There used to be a full window were the stove and microwave are now, and a wall where the fridge is, which explains the floor's patchy look as it transitions from maple to pine.
I don't have enough cabinet space, and a lot of unusable space above the cabinets. Also, countertop space is fairly limited. I love my pantry, though it does need a fresh coat of paint.
