WORK IN PROGRESS! If I built this house I would have had expresso cabinets and Rainforest green or brown countertops but I didn't and I am on a budget. I plan to paint the walls Garden Gate by Valspar and add a backsplash with stone and glass tiles but it will be next summer before I can. Trying to use some favorite accents I have collected over the years to add some personality. Kitchen looks into the Dining area and Living room so blending the 3 but given them their own personality is important to me.

My Eclectic Living Room, WORK IN PROGRESS! As a whole my Living room is far from complete. We have to remove the carpet and replace with stone tile, paint the walls a warmer nuetral, change the blinds on the french doors, and complete the entertainment center. I do know the style direction I am going in though...eclectic with nature inspired accents. HELP! My Windows are Naked!, I have a Global Eclectic/Asian style and the home we purchased has very traditional fixtures and features. They are gorgeous and expensive so I do not want to replace them so I am attempting to make my style work with them on a budget. The Dining area opens to the LR and kitchen so it is important that these 3 rooms blend. I would love the paint the walls in the kitchen and Dining area a green color except the accent wall (I have Valspar Garden Gate picked out). The LR would be painted the same or similar color as the accent wall but it will be next summer before I can have roooms painted. Whatever fabric I chose for the Dining area needs to work with the Living room and kitchen. I considered just a plain color like the tablecloth (btw it is temporary...looking for something better). Would love to find something in a leaf, twig, tree, print. What do you think valances? Drapes? Nothing?, Dining Rooms Design

Good Night's Sleep for him and her, When we purchased our new home the Master was already painted this pale shade of green and even though I loved the serene blue-gray color in my previous bedroom I decided to work with this for now. The dark woods, leather chair, and fabrics are masculine while the bedding and lamps give the room a feminine touch. I love to use natural elements and texture as accents. Our Serene Retreat Relocated, We loved the color palette we used for our BR in our old home so we chose to keep it when we purchased our new home.The room is much larger and the layout is different so we did not completely replicate it. We loved all the textures we used before so we kept those and added a little more. The gray blue color is so peaceful and the dark woods pop against it. I feel in love with this rug and I think it is a perfect match. As you will see we had a blank canvas to begin with. The only things I want to change are side tables, the floors (replace carpet would a wood laminate) and the ceiling fan with something more contemporary. , Bedrooms Design

HELP!!!! Looking for a Zen like Spa Retreat, The Master Bath in our new home has potential. We love the whirlpool bath, double walk-in closets, large vanity, skylight (and the natural light from it), and the seperate lavatory area. The major problem is the wall paper and builder grade touches. HELP!!! Cabinet color is ruining my appetite!, This is the eating nook off my kitchen. I love the windows and the corner cabinets BUT the color of the cabinets is awful! They are a 90's yellowish-pink color. My color palette is dark brown (wall color, expresso colored furnture, leather on the seating, suede drapes and lampshade), cream, with green accents. I know I want to paint the insides a contrasting color to the cabinets. So do I paint the cabinets cream like the trim (at least it would get rid of the yello-pink tones)? Paint them a dark brown? But won't that be too much with the walls and furniture? Or get brave and do an olive (grayish green) or go really wild and do a lime green (not neon of course)? So if I go green on the cabinets do I use the brown wall color on the insides or do I do a wallpaper? AND whatever I chose has to work with the kitchen since it is 1 BIG space! I would love to restain my cabinets but it is too time consuming and expensive so painting is the better option for me since I will be doing it myself on the weekends and nights after work! Work in Progress, I love the layout, counter and cabinet space we have in our new kitchen BUT I cannot decide what to do with the cabinets! I have replaced the hardware, updated the light fixtures (still need to find the perfect cover for the flourescents), and updated the flooring. When our budget permits I want to replace all the appliances, change the countertops to granite or something similar, and add a stone backsplash. The biggest dilemma is the cabinet color...do I stain them to match the dining table, do a walnut colored wash, paint them an espresso or black and keep the countertops a light beige? Or do I use the creme trim color to paint the cabinets and then get a dark colored countertop? As you can see my style is not french country or tuscan and is more on the transitional/contemporary side and replacing the cabinets is NOT an option. I thought painting the walls and replacing the flooring with a rich chocolate would make me like the lighter wood color better but there is so much pink AND yellow tones in them that just scream the 90's to me. , Kitchens Design

HELP! Pet Friendly Entertaining Space Needed, This is the backyard in our newly purchased home. It has potential BUT my creativity has run dry trying to get the inside remodeled. We have 2 large dogs and this is their playground during the day while we are at work. They/we love to run and play in the space so we need to keep as much lawn as possible. The shed has been converted into a dog house so they have a warm/cool/dry space when needed, but it's an eyesore. We have a nice covered patio but it also needs to be pet friendly (nothing that can be torn to pieces or chewed to bits). HELP!!!!
We live in NW Louisiana so the summers are hot & humid so drought tolerate plants/landscaping is a must. A few ideas we have are to: Stain the concrete on the patio, paint the patio walls a warm kahki, add container gardens and hanging plants for color, create an outdoor kitchen area with a grill and preparation counter (need inexpensive ideas/solutions on how to enclose this area from the dogs), and want to add a water feature that is also pet friendly (also needs to be easy to install and inexpensive). , Yards Design

Budget Kitchen, This kitchen renovation took approx. $2000 and many weekends of elbow grease but in the end we were happy. Luckily we had "good bones" to work with; laminate wood floors, decent layout, and oak cabinets. The oak cabinets got a more contemporary paint scheme and new brushed nickel hardware. The countertops were covered with 20x20" ceramic tiles that looked like slate and the backsplash was created using 3 various styles of ceramic tile. Tween Chic-Fun, My daughter decided she wanted her bedroom redecorated for her 11th birthday. She had shared her room with her older sister who loves pink (before she left for college). So her first request was no pink! To get ideas we viewed alot of RMS rooms and she liked black & white best. She has always been "Miss Drama"! She picked the wall colors and bedding, helped paint, and put up the ribbon trim then I put it all together to surprise her on her birthday. She was so excited and loves the chandeliers! Since her birthday she has added the wall art and most of the accessories. transitional/Contemporary/minimalist kitchen makeover(before & after), cookie cutter track home got a major overhaul from floor to ceiling. 50's Cozy Cottage Kitchen, Our kitchen space is cute, but old. The cabinets have been repainted many times. The floor is uneven because of multiple layers of linoleum. The appliances need replacing. Something is leaking between the fridge and dishwasher and we don't know which so we keep a towel underneath the fridge to soak up the water coming from somewhere. The bar/pantry is so deep, things get lost and you never see them again. The bar really isn't a bar it's a "catch-all" and we need more space!! , Kitchens Design

Total Transformation, The kitchen prior to renovations was a Galley kitchen with a pass through to the formal dining room on one side and then had a breakfast nook on the other side. There was a wall between the breakfast nook and an indoor patio.

I decided to knockdown the wall between the breakfast nook and the indoor patio and then close up the pass through to the formal dining room. I then transformed the formal living room into an office and placed my dining room furniture where the breakfast nook used to be. The kitchen has a huge bar that you can sit at so there is no need for a breakfast nook anymore.

Tile backsplash #2, aaahhhh, I was SO SO happy with how this backsplash turned out! I really contemplated how to do it and had a hard time finding something I thought would look good. The granite is a little wild so I wanted something that would blend nicely. I used the same 2" tiles I used at my daughters house (see backsplash #1) but turned them on a diagonal. WOW what a difference! Plus this was very inexpensive tile. Only $2.97 for a 12x12 in sheet! Used the "Simple mat tile adhesive" again. Love this stuff., Kitchens Design
