Take everything that isn't nailed to the floor out to the "walk-in closet garage." Then begin to rethink it. Rustoleumtransformations.com has a new product to redo cabinets. That is where I'd start. Whatever you put on the cabinets, do the island in a great contrasting pop of color. There is also a new product that makes laminate countertops look like granite - even has the deep glossy shine. People here & at houzz.com are raving about them.You might be able to match the top on the island - can't see what it is though. Once you finish it, only bring items back in from the garage as you need them. Maybe in a few months you'll find there is still stuff in the garage, and you haven't needed it. That's the day you tackle the big yard sale prep, then open the garage doors & earn some money to buy a wall-to-wall storage system for it that will allow for one car & a non gas-hogging motor bike.

a good space. the cabinets are in good shape and white appliances will work and if you update the rest. first, do a 'clean sweep'. we ALL have stuff in our kitchens that we can live without...sell, gift or donate items you don't really need and aim for streamlined, not cluttered. this will open some cabinet space for the essential stuff. eliminate the country decor...it is dating the space. eliminate the scalloped piece over the sink, and if space allows, add a few more cabinets in a similar style. then refresh the cabinets and blend new with old with paint. then upgrade lighting & faucet, upgrade cabinet handles, apply a room brightening wall color and replace valances with curtain panels or new valances mounted above the window tops...bottom of valances should brush top of window to make windows look bigger and room brighter. loads of potential!! keep me posted! :]
