I like the colors of your backsplash, but this area needs to be more finished. The backsplash could use some painted trim to finish it off and demarcate the backsplash from the wall. The chalkboard area also needs some painted trim around it to define it as a "space" as well. As it is now, it doesn't appear to "be" anything, but a patch of black paint. On the top part of of the chalkboard I would write a standing comment that you can change periodically in freehand with colored chalk, something like Welcome or whatever message you want. Then could chalk in whatever sayings, items or drawings, etc you want in addition that can change periodically. Think you do need to have something written in chalk on this space to define what it is. Good luck!

Looking nice. My favorite kitchen was a galley - all so handy but not for multiple cooks. Fear you may tire of the chalkboard - I thought it was a huge flatscreen. Might rather have open shelving there or even shallow cabinets to match the rest since storage is at a premium. Of course, that can be done later if you want. Do you have a pantry? Shallow cabinets would work for canned goods storage.
