I would at least move the cabinet that is left of the sink up higher. I would then add shelving across above the sink. You dont need the mirror,but you do need storage. Mabe some organising containers so it doesn't look so cluttered. shelving for microwave over the stove. It really depends on your budget.....You need a cabinet and counter between your frig and stove.

If that is a mirror above the sink, I would suggest you stop trying to camelflouge it as a window. Take down the curtains and just get a beautiful mirror if you want one. Or a beautiful scenic picture of the outdoors. The curtains just close the area in more. In a really small kitchen the cheapest and biggest difference you can make is free....declutter! Take everything off the counters and table except what is used on a daily basis. Raise your cabinets and extend them to the door. Put the microwave above the stove if possible. I would open both cabinets above the sink or get frosted glass inserts.

Are you planning a remodel? There are lots of things that could be done with this kitchen including opening up to the living room so you don't fell so closed in- it just depends on your budget. You definitely need a different space plan and more cabinets and counters - but you know that already.

Your upper cabinets seem low, so raise them up would make the illusion of more space on the counter. Even 6" would help. If new cabinets are in the works take them all the way across to the doorway. If no new cabinets how about a new counter that goes all the way across continuously. You could put a cabinet above the stove and a wall/cabinet mount microwave. I would also paint the ceiling white and a light calmer color on the walls.

If you can , move the range to the left of the sink allowing some space in between the two. A pantry storage unit then can be placed on both sides of the fridge. You can install an over the range microwave over the range providing your ceiling height is at least 84" tall.If not the install a cabinet between the fridge and range as well as overhead, this will give you more storage and raise the cabinet to the left of the sink to 84"(top of cabinet to create space between the counter and the bottom of the wall cabinet..
