I just saw your response to my comment, so I thought I'd get back to you. I think the table in your living room goes well in there and would be too small for this area. Actually, I think a larger table perhaps something like a rectangular black metal and glass table might work here. I think an area rug would work well in here, something to add some variety, in pattern, texture and/or color. Perhaps an abstract print using some of the colors in your picture over the fireplace as a base. Really like your furniture as is true of your kitchen as well and really like the painting over the fireplace. I think the lighter color in the painting - gold - yellow? - might be a nice color for fabric pillows for your sofa, as well as perhaps fabric pillows in a light lilac, that will show well against the black. Add in some more items that you really like to help finish off the room. Good luck!

I agree about changing curtains out. I wasn't sure about area rug and coffee table. I was thinking about moving coffee table from living room in here? What do you think?

You could really use some color, texture and pattern in this room. You need an area rug and a coffee table here. I would consider going with an area rug that has a pattern to it - since this is such a neutral base, you could go with anything you like. The sheer drapes that are here and in the kitchen don't work. you need panel drapes, floor to ceiling in the family room and dining room in a heavier fabric, such as a cotton, linen or faux or real silk. In this room, you could have as well a straight valance that matched the drapes. With the black, white and gray, you really need some color. If you like purple, as you stated, something like a light lilac along with another accent color, perhaps a yellow for contrast would work with the black, gray and white. You could use fabric accent pillows in a pattern to break up the expanse of black leather and something like a chenille throw in a light lilac would look great on the sectional as well. Good luck!

I have been looking to make some changes in our home for sometime. It's an homesteas of 110 years old still in good conditon but with the old look. i would like to make it more updated with light color and the kitchen "Larsen 1230/contemporary black /white is to my taste; I just fell in love with the style. My first floor needs an upgrade to the new look but i must consider a budget has we plan to do the roof, paint the exterior of the house a different color, it's white now like the old home. i want to add vynil shutters, half moon on top of the windows at the first level to give it a more custom look with some chic, change a couple windows too... I have so many ideas but it's a lot of work. My husband is going crazy just to listen and all the project i have in my head and share with him...
