Hokie V, I wouldn't do an accent wall in this space. They rarely seem to work in a living room. w/ the opening to the kitchen & that wall w/the large bank of windows I think it would come off looking choppy. However, I do like the idea of yellow, for all the walls in this room, I would continue the color on the inside portion of the arch, that is what I did in my home. Please, visit my postings to see what I mean. Something like Valspar SR612 Sunrise Beach {light yellow w/slight gold undertones} or for something more in a mid-tone range Valspar SR613 Caribbean Sunset, I painted my sunroom this color. Either of these would play well w/the brown & the tan you have in this space. Then you could bring the marron in from the kitchen by adding a throw, throw pillows &/or art w/morron or burgandy in them.

I agree that the furniture is oversized, for this room. However sometimes we have to go w/what we have knowing that down the road it can be replaced w/something less bulky. View 1 will work but I'd relocate the loveseat & replace it w/a slipper chair thus reducing your seating by only 1. Perhaps you could lean a couple of floor cushions against the wall in the corner near the kitchen. View 3 can also work, but would omit the loveseat. Pull the sofa out from the wall about 18 inches, just enough for a console table w/something pretty in the center of it, this will deflect the sofa being in front of the window,end tables w/lamps for the sofa. Center t.v. on the wall & center the recliner to face the t.v. dirrectly, thus giving the kitchen a bit of breathing room. The slipper chair would then go in the corner near the kichen sitting caty-corner, In either arrangment I would go w/a round glass top coffee table, to visibly expand the space. Unless there's small children in the home.

One day we will get smaller furniture, but we are trying to make due with what we already have for now. I kind of like the couch as a barrier between the kitchen and living room too so that the window was open, but then the living room feels smaller especially with the other two huge chairs. Thanks for your suggestions--I will have to look into wall sconces and additional lighting! What do you think of painting the wall behind the TV an accent color? Our kitchen colors are maroons, greens, and yellow/golds. I was thinking about a Tuscan-style yellow/gold behind the TV, but I'm just not sure.

I like the couch along the kitchen, so it creates kind of a barrier against the two rooms. Get some large artwork for the walls. Get from local art gallery or art.com. Yes, you have beautiful windows and it would be best to see the view in its entirety. A ceiling light is not the best in a living room. See if you can get a lamp in each corner. To save floor space, get wall sconces. Add one side table to each seating unit. If you want one in the middle, pick a round ottoman. It's easier on the knees and provides additional seating. A dark brown pattern might be nice for an ottoman in this room. In small rooms, large plush furniture don't do it justice. Try to stick to narrow profile pieces. Furniture stores can help with that.
