Like your idea of the cowhide. I think for your tile on the surround at the base of the fireplace something the color of your woodwork might be a good choice and perhaps a rougher surfaced tile as well. For your drapes, I would go with something in the color range of a brown or rust or copper, or could go with wood or bamboo shades in here, which I think would work as well. I think the small chair in the corner is way too small, which is why the table looks too large and it looks like it impedes movement and doesn't add anything to the room. As for art you have so many choices, if you have art galleries or artist's co ops in your area, that's a place to check, or online for prints at various places as well. But you've made a great start in this room and your dining room and looks like a lovely older home. Enjoy!

i would start the 'finishing' process by first picking out your tiles for the FP, and allow it to inspire a subtlely richer wall color and perhaps a rug [an animal hide rug may look too busy if the tile you choose has alot of pattern]. there are tiles in every imaginable price range, so, be sure to set a budget and look only at what is available in that price range to make the deciding process easier. then add some color with long straight ceiling to floor curtain panels, coordinating toss pillows and some great, large scaled art. i always find something fab and non-generic looking when i visit art.com....just do the framing yourself or at a local frame shop to save tons of $!! the chair in the corner is too small and looks lost there, try it elsewhere and put a long low slim cabinet or chest of drawers there instead. oh, and don't forget some stylish tall lamps...their glow at night is much more flattering than overhead lighting! LOADS of fab potential!! keep us posted! :]

he first thing I would have done is paint the patio brick fireplace white, to update it and add sophistication and charm. I would leave the mantle the original wood however. Not sure you're open to that but if you Google image white painted brick fireplaces you can before/afters. You have a contemporary space but your brick is 70's. I might do a cream shag area rug vs. cowhide rug, which I don't find warm and inviting, but flat and hard.

I LOVE hides,a brindle is a great idea for your space.

Brown leather Ottoman would look better..soft leather throw pillows too
