I need help decided what to do to the wall. I am debating on whether or not it's a good idea to add an accent wall. I am thinking of a royal red color. My options are to add a chair rail just on that one wall from the dining room to the living room, and painting just the top part red. Another option is painting the bottom part red. Or no chair rail and just painting the wall red. I am confused and not sure what to do. Please HELP!!!!!!!! I am open to all suggestions.

P.S. I am changing the painting to something that matches the living room.

I think that it is pretty the way it is but if you want an accent wall, how about a stenciled pattern with either the crimson that you want or in the same shade that you have with a different finish (if your current paint color was done in a satin finish, use the stencil in the same color but with a gloss finish? The pattern in the same color will adds a subtle impact to the wall and if you choose crimson, the pattern will give it a huge impact. Either way, it will draw the eye to the focal wall.

Your living room is very cozy and sophisticated. I love your furniture and rug. I also don't think you need to paint. You may want to do a bit more with your shelving unit. Those items on top look too tall. I would also hang a picture in the dining room, but overall you have a very well put-together room.

I would leave the walls neutral, this will keep the room looking lighter. You might want to create a "box" on the living room wall with trim over the couch and paint that red inside.

Frankly, I believe you're better off keeping all the walls the same treatment. It keeps the space looking more open, flowing and contemporary, and allows for easier changes later on when you feel like it.
