I love this style--looks so classy

This is one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen on this site. I truly could just move right in and be at home. However, since you asked for suggestions for some minor changes to the area over the fireplace and your two chests, you might consider hanging an actual tapestry over the fireplace. Hang it from a decorative wooden rod with a pretty tassle hanging from each end - that's very much an "old world" look. Then you could replace the vases you have over each chest with framed prints that just sit on your iron shelves rather than hang on the wall. Another idea would be to hang a large mirror over the fireplace, then replace what you have over your chests (on both sides with mini gallery walls consisting of a mixture of old photos, framed prints, old keys, small framed sillouettes, etc. Then on top of your chests just have a matching lamp on each with a few books and a small vase of flowers. What do you think?

Thank you Willow! Yes, I totally agree. I don't have a lot of photos around the house so they have sorta grouped here. The sofas & chair with ottoman were purchased for our last house which had a little larger family room. I did try to place the chair on the other side of the armoire but it is just too wide. It blocks the chest entirely. I would like to update this room some, a little more modern. Tricky to do to make it look right. If you look at my other pics my house is pretty Old World/Mediterranean/ Traditional. Would like to replace sofas with a sectional, something new over fireplace & chests etc. Need Help!

I would like to replace the sofas with a sectional eventually. I think it would open up the space more instead of looking at the back of the sofa. Maybe recover the chair and keep here or move to another room. The carpet is blah! I have travertine leading into this room, but they said if I try to add travertine into this room it probably wouldn't match. I don't know what to put? More carpet? I like wood floors but I think dark wood would cut the space in half. They have some new lighter woods? Seagrass carpet? I would also like to put something different over the fireplace and chests but don't know what. HELP!

Oh Lilly this is such a gorgeous room. It looks so refined & elegant. Love the fireplace, love the furniture & those wonderful arches.Some folks may try & bust you for having too many family pics./stuff on those gorgeous hutches, but I say it's touches like that that helps make it feel like a real home. It adds the warmth of the "lived in" feel. Just as an observation I note that the sofa isn't centered w/the fireplace. This could be accompished by moving the chair & ottoman to the other side of the armior. Where it is now, it seems to be a bit overwelmed by the hugh armior. On the other side it would have the shorter hutch on one side. Might be worth a try? Just a thought. Cograds on a beautiful space!
