Just purchased my first house, and man, was it ever so 70s! The BAD 70s. So with a tiny budget we are going about ans slowly bring it up to speed.

Paint on walls is Behr "Almond Wisp" Ceilings is Cream, Beams are semigloss white.

Were going to replace the carpet with dark hardwoods, and thinking of putting built ins along the long wall as well as an are among them to hide the TV. The UGLY fan will replaced with one with some lighting. Well what would make it pop?

Spring time garden second season., Last year, I planed, researched, drew and dug, mulched, watered and googled till my eyes hurt. All in the name of having a beautiful garden to come home to. All in the name of cheapness too. Perennials that would last, shrubs to slowly grow and give this garden winter structure. Watching everything fill in this year I feel good about the choices I made. thought I would share a few pictures of the garden today.

Family Room Updated, Been working on this room over the past year, trying not to go broke. How am I doing? The family room. Ever changing, ever messy, ever busy. Well, they donÃ¢ÂÂt call it family room for nothing! Normally it is a mess. But when the kids go to bed and the husband is in the shower, I can take pictures of it clean! This is not a room of Ã¢ÂÂOoh, ahh, Fancy!Ã¢ÂÂ It is place for people. 99.9% of the time there are toys all over, blankets wadded up or thrown on cold kids, pillows everywhere and the dogs sleeping on the floor. This is also the room in the center of the house. No windows, no natural light. When we moved in it was so dark. Dark wood paneling, dark faux wood beams. Dark fireplace, with a way to small mantel, way to large and high mirror. Dark brass ceiling fan with no light, hanging from a hook! HA! But with some cleaning and paint, and ripping up the old carpet, it was a diamond in the rough. Lots of space, french doors, brick fireplace that speaks to the outside of the house. Yes, even the fake beams could be a total gem with a little work.

Free & Cheap Redo., Been slowly trying to make this more than what was 'The Formal Hallway.' In the last year of living here I ripped down old wallpaper, had to bleach, yes bleach the walls before I primed and painted. Then my husband ripped out the floor, and put in the allure. The rest has been collected from free and cheap stuff from craigslist. Rug was 40 from Ross. Couch was 100$ Will drop off, chairs are funky cool, and were FREE, frames were 2-3$ each from wallmart. Printed pictures of my kids from the ones over the couch, and the ones over the sofa table were leftover fabric I loved. And now, what do you think? Ginkgo Master, Blue bedding?, I went digging into my storage room and found a velvet dusty blue duvet with subtle pattern on it. Washed it and threw it on the bed. I love the blue, green, white and brown together, works in nature. So I tried it, and I loves it. I also hand painted the ginkgo on the walls. Still looking for a rug, a cheap rug.

Southern Fall Garden, Year 1, My first fall in Savannah GA. Been working on this garden since Feb, so its still new. I did alot of digging out lawn, edging myself. Tried to plan this out the best I could for a newbie to gardens. I have it so I have something blooming all year, and a few shrubs so when most turn to sticks this winter there will still be structure to the garden. I hope I did this right! I did this with the formal layout, matching on each side. On the left right side of the house between the 2 elephant ears is another dogwood to match the one by the front door, but cannot tell, its dropped most of its leaves already.

Need ideas., Repainted this room after I added the cherry flooring, and new fan with cherry blades. They room turned from a tan into a pinky peach, YUCK! So I painted it "Contemplation" By Bher. We also got a new TV, and this is where I need help. As of now, we have an old beat up dresser under it as a console, keeping the baby out of the wires. I need ideas for a cheap built in system, or a good sized entertainment system for a lower price. The chair and ottoman are also baby blockers. There is cable behind the ottoman, and the electrical outlet behind the chair. UGH

Floors are in!!!, Here it is, all done! The floors are 'Allure Traffic Master, cherry" and look like real wood! Amazing! I mixed the teal paint color myself from a can of light grey I had, and some of my acrylics for my painting. The twig painting I did over old wood 'wine bottle plaques' from walmart. The photo gallery I did in all black and dark brown frames [painted them black to match], with my fave family photos, and elephants of course.

Tropical Southern Cottage, Yes, that right, its a tropical cottage garden in the works. I tried to do sections of water loving plants (Elephant Ears with Hydrangea) and so on. This garden in only 6 months old, and is my first garden. Most of the plants were started from seed or bulb. The others were from 1 gallon pots since I cannot afford to buy big plants.
Some things here have not reached blooming age yet, (Fox glove, Lupine) and others has all done bloomed, (August Beauty Gardenia) And others are starting their second bloom thanks to deadheading... Cant wait till this is all grown in in a few years.

Well, I'm Stumped, For the first time, I am totally stumped! This has been an empty room until last night when the husband and I finished the new floors {Allure Traffic Master Vinyl planks}

This room is for our 3 year old son, and 1 year old daughter. So the finished product has to reflect them both. The Layout of the room is what has me struggling. This room is NOT finished by any means {Needs closet doors, Needs new long white curtains, Needs rug, Needs decor, Baby needs dresser...}

Here's my problem. Caine is in a toddler bed, will be upgrading to a twin as soon as budget allows. I am going to do a twin sleigh in a dark stain or a white cottage look, Also planning on doing matching rugs under each of the kiddos beds. The balance of the room seems off with the crib pushed back in the corner, and the room is empty as of now thanks to the budget. So, What do you think I should do about the layout?, Bedrooms Design

New floors, Well we were going to replace the floor at some point, but a leak that soured the carpet, and rusted the bed seemed like as good a time as any. Didn't have much $$$ ready for this disaster, so we purchased 'Allure Traffic master Vinyl planks, Cherry' for 1.75$ SF. we will be doing the entire house with this. Finished paint, need more ideas!, My Camera {Phone} stinks, sorry for the not so great pics!
Ok, they were once ucky greasy badly finished dated cabinets, in good shape. So, whats a girl with a "Tight" husband gonna do? Work her butt off thats what! So I scrubbed, and sanded for days, then came the tape {I hate paint tape} and coat after coat of black paint. I did this alone while the husband was at work, and babies, yes 2, were home. This is where I am at as of now.

I need help picking pulls for the cabinets, and what kind of cheap back splash!

Took some suggestions, I know, I know, the carpet is NASTY, and on its way out *When I can afford it* The walls are Koala Bear by Bher, a grayish green. The picture frames are wallmart, 3$ a pop, silver, or a brushed looking plastic silver. The "Print in them is fabric leftover from my sons window treatments. The shelf is a mantel from the old fireplace I painted. I changed out the place-mats with some I painted a while back since it was pointed out the old ones blended in to much. I will be adding a buffet under the frames as soon as I can. Any other ideas? So far my colors are greens, white, silver and the color of the wood. , Dining Rooms Design

HELP ASAP!, Ok, old and rundown, I know. No money for new, I know. I am painting them, they were sealed badly with drips and runs, and a ugly stain thats seen it day, so much sanding was needed.
BUT, I dont know if I should carry on with what I was thinking, and need help like, RIGHT NOW! Do I finish them black, with silver-stainless pulls and handles, given the molding, would that look crappy? I like the white from the primer, and am leaning towards throwing some white on there and bringing it up, it would have a cottage feel then. I cant change the counter tops for a while, or floors. My fear is black would be dark and off looking with what I have. White, well, white cabinets, counters, light floors, is that going to look washed out? New couch, House full of kids!, Ok, I got a sloppy husband and 3 kids under the age of 6. So I need lots of seating in my house. I got this couch off craigslist for 800$ and sold my old set for 250 the next day, SCORE! The lamps I got from Ross for about 38 each, The light rug was 20 From Ross, and the dark rug was 80 a few years back from walmart, Yes, I have layered rugs! Uh, the TV is poo, I know. And well there is only 1 way to have this room layed out and you looking at it. Oh, yeah the sitting chair and ottoman were bought off craigslist for 20$ and were red, so I dyed them brown, and the shag rug I cut into an oval and sealed the edges. Also had to make sew extra fabric on the curtains to make them longer since my celling is 9ft tall. Oh, I cannot paint it Army housing, well yeah, NEVERMIND THE TOYS, HAHAHA yeah right!, Living Rooms Design

Living Room, In my 1930's home, I've tried hard to integrate my modern taste with some of the traditional elements, such as the moldings and archways. In my living room, I used a sort of greige-ish hue to accent my red couch and chair. My coffee table is from my grandmother's farmhouse - freshened up with a coat of glossy black paint on the base.
