In my 1930's home, I've tried hard to integrate my modern taste with some of the traditional elements, such as the moldings and archways. In my living room, I used a sort of greige-ish hue to accent my red couch and chair. My coffee table is from my grandmother's farmhouse - freshened up with a coat of glossy black paint on the base. My favorite piece is my linen and nailhead chest of drawers, which adds the perfect amount of pattern and texture to the room.

I wanted to take away peoples idea of african american style and make it more eclectic and traditional along with exotic and bold colors like RED, BLACK, GOLD, ORANGE, and GREEN to give you another way of looking at strong bold and exotic colors and textures in a more sophisticated and elegant way.
Our room has large windows with unique views that are very Chicago, the el , lake and some landmark buildings. We used a mixture of mid-century and conemporary and kept the views as our main focus.
