I inherited my great-grandma's old bookcase a few years ago. It was in decent structural condition but was pretty ugly, and it took me a long time to mess with it because of the sentimental value. However, I cleaned it up, sanded it down and painted it, added new knobs for the top drawer...and viola! I love it! And I'm pretty sure my grandma won't mind.
