Thank you kleentx for the idea of the "gallery wall", I did a search on google and was surprised to see so many ideas out there. Will definitely incorporate some family pictures and other memento things on the staircase. I also like the idea of putting a decorative metal above the bench, will have to see if I can find something. Thank you again.

I can see that you've gotten some great ideas for moving the furniture around. However, as for decorating the space, you need some artwork. Depending upon your style, you can look for a pretty decorative metal/iron piece to put above the bench. Along the staircase, I like the look of a gallery wall. You can combine family photos (new and old, framed paintings or prints, a clock, decorative plates, etc. into a visual masterpiece that all your visitors will want to linger over and look at everytime they come to see you. Google the term "gallery wall" and you'll find all sorts of responses to look at on decorating blogs on the web.

I can see what you're saying JustAPhotographer, I will try moving those around this weekend. The bench will be too big for where the bureau is now. The bureau is kind of like a hat hanger with mirror. I'll take some pics and post it. I do have a pretty big wrap around porch, but would hate to leave the bench out in the harsh weather.

It sounds like the small bureau would work better where the bench is, if it will fit. The bench seems a little large where it is now. Would it fit by the door where the bureau is now? If not, how about on the front porch? That could be very inviting with a plant, small table, or other accessories, etc.

Thank you PattiAK for your comment, I do have a small bureau on the right side of the door as you walk in, with hat hangers and mirror, it is a matching set to the bench. I do love this bench, but it just doesn't look too inviting and the wall is just too plain.

A bureau here would look good and be good storage for hats. Mittens, scarves. I have a refinished antique piece inside my door that holds all these things as well as small tools, greeting cards, pens and paper. I have plants and a framed family photo on top.
