Good question jojo5. I started the sketches for this design while our house was being built. The inspiration for the design is the white sand traps which are my borrowed view. Look for your inspiration. From there, design was based on practical needs. An elevated patio helped the views. The placement of a 30 foot ash tree gave shade on the morning patio. The beds encircle the small yard to define my space without blocking views. And the plant textures, colors, and forms are like paints to me. I am a commercial artist/designer by trade, and I draw on my background in art to inspire the garden. Good luck in your design.
