Our 100 year old home featured a guestroom to the left as soon as you entered the house. That guestroom had two front south facing windows. The living room was directly behind that and had one north facing window and although roomy, was very dark. I put my house on the market actually just because I needed more light in our common areas. With a lot of hard work and just $3500 we swapped the spaces and added a half bath. Now I will never move! :)
Living in a townhouse has its challenges. With no real back yard to speak of, I yearned for a serene, private space to enjoy the outdoors - but with a limited budget and strict HOA rules, my options were limited.
The solution? A small 8' x10' deck off the second "main" floor of our 3-story home! IKEA and HomeGoods were my best friends for this project; I was able to completely furnish & decorate for about $1k.
- "Applaro" sofa, dropleaf table, outdoor cushions, & "Lenda" curtains (IKEA)
- Gray bentwood chairs (HomeGoods)
- Wire accent plant stands/tables (HomeGoods)
- DIY coffee tables I made from tree slabs and cheap plant stands I spray painted
- Green outdoor throw pillows (Pier 1)
- Patterned outdoor throw pillows (Pottery Barn)
- Outdoor rug (Mad Mats)

Upstairs attic/storage turned cozy love nest! This 2 room space is now a living room and a bedroom, somewhat of a mini suite. Beautiful pine floors and beveled ceiling contribute to the country charm of this space. It's decor is a combined effort of a woodsy appeal mixed with unique attic and flea market finds with clean lines and many textures. Warm and inviting colors make this space feel particularly inviting.

My roommate and I had a lot of fun decorating the downstairs area of our townhouse! She and her mom acquired the furniture, and painted the entertainment center and the dining room table themselves! We also had fun incorporating our sorority (we're big and little sisters!), our sorority family name ('Faith'), and our shared love of music and band.
I'd also like to note that our landlord does not allow us to paint the walls or anything like that, so the walls are stuck the color that they are. We made the most of our bland house coloring by trying to make our furniture and decorations a bit more bold.
