Modernist Mother-in-Law's Apartment, My home was built in 1950 and included a detached carport with a large two-room workshop. In January of this year, I embarked on a project to build a completely self-contained apartment for myself on the existing slab of the carport/workshop and invited my daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons to move into the main house. The new apartment was immediately dubbed "The Modernist Nest" by a fellow blogger.

It took three months to complete the construction and a couple more months to landscape, but I'm finally in and enjoying my new 676 sf nest-space very much., Other Spaces Design
Coronado Galley Kitchen, We took a 7x11 galley kitchen into a 7 x 16 by taking down a wall and moving the laundry/mud room. Ours was an all original 1935 kitchen that had never been touched. We raised the old laundry floor up to level with the kitchen floor and knocked down two walls, one from the diningroom and the one that was the laundry/mud room., Kitchens Design

Whisk Me Away Tropical Canopy, My bedroom needed lift and I wanted it to feel relaxing and warm. I never actually made it my own since I moved in 2011. Needless to say, this has been a work in process. After the carpet was replaced with laminate it was time to overhaul.

I added tropical bright colors, created a fabric headboard, added mix match pillows, placed wooden frames around fabric, made a suspended wooden canopy with shear curtains, soft throw and added plants and candles. (teal, coral and white were my primary colors)

Now I go to bed and feel like I am on vacation staying in my own tropical suite. :), Bedrooms Design
Entryway to our living room- Before and After , We recently moved into this home but like more of a modern look. So we took out the carpet, added dark wood floors, some light gray paint, new tiles, furniture and can lighting. , Living Rooms Design
