"Mid" Century on Low Budget (just $1500!), I had a very low budget to create a room with enough style to reflect my personality. The goal was just to eliminate the empty room. This is the1st room you see when entering our home. It is our 1st house & like most new home owners, we didn’t have enough furniture to fill all the spaces. I absolutely ADORE mid-century modern (more specifically: mid-century Dutch modern) yet my entire budget wouldn’t even cover the purchase price of the teak sideboard I so coveted. So I hit the local 2nd hand shop where I scored the sideboard with hutch, the coffee table, the small black table & most of the glass accessories for $280. I bought new yet inexpensive upholstered pieces, did the artwork myself, bought a couple of new lamps & a new throw rug. Combine all that with the things I already owned (like the curtains & the mid-century desk I’m using as an entry table) and I believe I pulled off a decent version of my beloved mid-century design even though some of the pieces are more recent. I made sure to use furniture that had legs & I’m thrilled with the find of the end tables: they are a lovely natural wood grain that blends the dark of the other furniture with the light shade of the floor (which we can’t wait to replace)., Living Rooms Design
Second hand furniture in a rented apartment, This is my living room in my rented 2 bedroom apartment. The dining room living room and kitchen are all in one big area which I tried to divide visually using the console table. Most of the furniture and accessories are second hand and the total price came up to $2780 and $1200 more for the TV. Please give me any suggestions. Dining Room During the Holidays, This is our dining room. With the exception of the buffet lamps - found at Kirkland's), EVERYTHING in this space is second hand or deep, deep clearance. I am SO proud to have inherited my Grandparent's table and buffet. I thought the original chairs (music back) were far too traditional so I got the parsons chairs that you see here 2nd hand off of a local seller on craigslist.com I will be posting other projects for your review soon as well as a current "everyday look" for this room. Second Hand Apt Living, This is our living room. Mostly everything was second hand. We live in an apt that does not allow painting. If we would we could! The pictures on the wall above the couch are puzzles that include Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, James Dean and Humphry Bogart.
