When I first bought this townhome, in San Dimas, CA I knew I wanted to make it in to something special. I've been playing piano for about 18 years, and I wanted my Piano Room to be one of the most highlighted rooms of my home. Although not pictured, the room was originally equipped with brown carpet and semi gloss white paint. Before I moved in, my boyfriend and I laid down new laminate wood flooring ourselves and repainted this room "Pavilion Beige" (Sherwin Williams). But after seeing my piano in it, it was dark, still felt empty and I wanted something bright and bold. Contrary to most, I decided to not let my piano be the absolute main focal point of the room. I decided that I wanted wallpaper solely on the back wall to be my main focal point and to make the rest of the room look as simplistic and natural as possible. At first glance I wanted people to initially notice the wallpaper and then notice my beautiful piano and all of the accessories within it.
I went with this beautiful wallpaper called "Majestic Teal" from Graham & Brown. I also wound up painting the rest of the room "Pure White" by Sherwin Williams to make the room look brighter but still warm. It was also important to find a white that would look good with the lighting in my room and also against the Teal/Gold Wallpaper
Because of the bold wallpaper choice and of course my bold piano in a smaller room I decided to go with something a little more simplistic. The "Mobile Small Pendant" from West Elm. Although not truly captured here, it's completely beautiful and gives the room enough lighting with 6 Edison Style Lightbulbs :) This lighting choice was a little bit more on the rustic/industrial side in comparison to all of the other choices in the room.
The shelves were completely DIY and it was my first time ever making shelves from scratch. Since the lighting was a little industrial I decided to make my shelving industrial as well. With galvanized piping being the supporting beams from the shelves, and distressing the wood like crazy.
The best part of this room was that it was completely DIY and the wallpaper/repaint/lighting/shelving was done for less than $500!
1. Graham & Brown Wallpaper: $70 (on sale)
2. West Elm Lighting: $161 (on sale)
3. Shelves: $140
4. Sherwin Williams Paint: $100

Twenty years ago when I saw an old stove in an antique store, I swear I heard angels singing and I began to dream of owning one of these gems someday. This summer we made that dream come true by designing out kitchen remodel around a completely restored 1952 Wedgewood stove that we purchased from Buckeye Appliance in Stockton, CA.
